If you want the answer (or reason) to the problem, they did not ADD a 1, notice that our dear friend Ubaldus chose to close these parenthesis away from the first term. In the end though, there has to be that leftover “-1” no matter how far you go with the equation…
0 = 1 + (1 - 1) + (1 - 1) + (1 - 1) + ……..
0 = 1 + (1 - 1) + (1 - 1) + (1 - 1) - 1
0 = 0
So remember kids. UBALDUS DID NOT ADD THE 1, HE THOUGHT HE WOULD BE CLEVER IF HE CONTAINED CERTAIN NUMBERS.
